Songs That Speak To The Soul

Do you ever hear a song on the radio, and it just hits you in the deepest part of your innermost being? As if the writers and artists are speaking directly into your soul? This happens to me on a fairly regular basis. I've always been fascinated with writing, poetry, lyrics, and music, most likely because that's the easiest way for me to connect. When I have trouble expressing my thoughts and feelings, I can usually find a song that can help me do so. There have been so many times where I've caught myself thinking, "Wow...I totally could've written that." No matter how many times it happens, I am always amazed. I thought as part of this new blog (crossing my fingers I follow through with posting regularly!) that I would periodically post about songs that have affected me, and explain how they relate to my life. Seeing as it is 3:32am, I am going to save that for the next post. :) However, I would like to share something that I received several years back in an email. It is all about perspective, and it is one of the reasons I call my blog Mud Puddles and Dandelions. The main reason for the title has to do with my Mom. As a little girl I would always pick her little bouquets of dandelions. You might say they are weeds, but she'll tell you that they are her favorite flower! I'll elaborate more in another post, but for now here is the email I mentioned:

Mud Puddles and Dandelions

When I look at a patch of dandelions, I see a bunch of weeds
that are going to take over my yard. My kids see flowers for Mom and
blowing white fluff you can wish on.
When I look at an old drunk and he smiles at me, I see a
smelly, dirty person who probably wants money and I look away. My kids see
someone smiling at them and they smile back.
When I hear music I love, I know I can't carry a tune and don't
have much rhythm so I sit self-consciously and listen. My kids feel the beat
and move to it. They sing out the words. If they don't know them, they make
up their own.
When I feel wind on my face, I brace myself against it. I
feel it messing up my hair and pulling me back when I walk. My kids close
their eyes, spread their arms and fly with it, until they fall to the ground
laughing.
When I pray, I say Thee and Thou and grant me this, give me
that. My kids say, "Hi God! Thanks for my toys and my friends. Please keep
the bad dreams away tonight. Sorry, I don't want to go to Heaven yet. I
would miss my Mommy and Daddy."
When I see a mud puddle I step around it. I see muddy shoes
and dirty carpets. My kids sit in it. They see dams to build, rivers to
cross and worms to play with.
I wonder if we are given children to teach or to learn
from? No wonder God loves the little children!!
"Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look
back and realize they were the big things." Just a reminder about the
important things in life.
I wish you mud puddles and dandelions!
